United Commercial Bank and El Banco Essay - 1489 Words

Question 1: Compare and contrast the strategic service vision of United Commercial Bank and El Banco. The strategic service vision entails four pillars, which consist of target market segment, service concept, operating strategy, and service delivery system. In essence, the pillars are utilized to improve or modify current services. The first pillar, target market segment is essentially the discovery stage. The point of this stage is to determine whom the company is serving and to whose needs their product needs to be tailored. Some contributing factors in determining the target include demographics, psychographics, and other important characteristics. In the case of United Commercial Bank, their main target market is clear, the†¦show more content†¦By comparing themselves to Western Union, El Banco attracts customers to come to their bank and cash checks in their establishment even if they do not have an account with them. By charging people with a 1.5% cashing fee, El Banc o makes a third of their revenue. In addition, once they have the customer, they are able to offer more features such as a mortgage for undocumented workers, based on their taxpayer identification, credit cards, financing, and savings accounts. The third pillar is the operating strategy. This factor focuses on the structure and order of the company. The United Commercial Bank is strategically located in predominantly Chinese American neighborhoods, as well as Hong Kong, Taiwan, and China. By employing Chinese speaking employees, UCB is able to maintain a strong flow of business and communication with their customers. In addition, whenever a client opens either a checking or savings account, they are rewarded with a tea caddy or gift tea sets to further accentuate the culture. On the other hand, although El Banco is located only in Georgia, they do employ a similar strategy in terms of structure. They too are culturally homogenous, by focusing on their Hispanic constituents and emplo ying Spanish speaking workers. Two vast differences in their structure is that El Banco is informal in their overall appearance and their business structure is a franchise company. Lastly, the fourth pillar is service delivery system. This pillarShow MoreRelatedEl Banco and United Commercial Bank964 Words   |  4 Pages1. Thomas Aquinas Theory Of Skepticism - 1826 Words

This philosophical study will argue against the underlying negation of skepticism that Thomas Aquinas presents in cognition and the theory of sensory perception. Aquinas presents the argument for cognition and sensory perception through the argument of Aristotle, which basis the process of cognition through the experience of sensory perception. For Aquinas, the perception of experience should be doubted because the senses can directly perceive an event as a identifier of knowledge. In this manner, the cognitive elements of the human brain have the ability to abstract the information brought through the senses, which enables human beings to decipher any form of doubt or distortion in nature. This is part of an innate form of discerning†¦show more content†¦This conception of the mental imprint on the mind provides a basis for Aquinas’ position that the signet’s mark on the wax is inseparable, since they are a sympathetic element of external affection through the human senses: Nor can someone say that only corporeal matter, and not some other kind of matter, impedes intelligibility. For, if it were only corporeal mater that impedes intelligibility, then since matter is called corporeal only insofar as it exists under a corporeal form, matters impeding intelligibility would come from the corporeal form; and this is impossible, for the corporeal form is actually intelligible just like any other form (Aquinas para.30). This description of human cognition is very similar to Aristotle’s allegory of the signet-ring and the wax, since it shows a conjoining connection between the corporeal aspects of the external world that are â€Å"imprinted† onto the mind of the individual. This connection makes them inseparable as a means of using sensory perception to define the cognitive function of the mind. However, there are major problems with this argument, since Aquinas (and his mentor, Aristotle) seem to completely trust the human sensory apparatus in order to define the link between the internal and external processing of thought in the mind. Aquinas projects the argument that the human mind is capable of discerning abstract thought, which makes it possible to trust sensory perception throughShow MoreRelatedBombardier Aerospace: An Overview1590 Words   |  6 PagesAlthough there have been myriad methods for proving Gods existence, a central dispute concerns whether or not to use a rational approach or a more Biblically-grounded approach. The Performance Management System

Question: Describe about the performance management system. Answer: Introduction: Every position in a corporate environment holds integral roles and responsibilities that need to be performed in a prudent manner. Human resource is the major factor of production in any organization. Effective management of human resource is the most fundamental aspect for a company to run smoothly and progress well in the future. The intense competitive environment in the modern world has made it indispensable for the individuals involved in an organization to organize their work and serve in their best possible way. The studies conducted by several critics convey the opinion that an organization is able to enhance its level of productivity and the quality standards of the production only when the business concern can ensure better performance from its employees. Improvisation and healthier evaluation of the performance of the employees working in a particular company is of utmost importance in an organization. Performance management of the workforce is therefore highly associated with the Human Resource management of any company. Al Ariss et al (2014) opine that the Human Resource Management department of the companies are thus increasingly becoming important to bring integration at the workplace between the workforce and the leadership. As and when there is integration in an organization, the performance level of the employees in an organization would increase to a very high level. According to Craft (2013), Performance management is such a field that involves the managers but also the indulgence of the HRM strategies, the managerial department of the organization and the employees themselves. In case of the performance management system, it has to be taken into proper consideration that the strategies of the performance management should not be implemented for bringing forth the weakness or drawbacks of the working staff. Rather the performance management system should encourage the betterment of the abilities and skills of the employees (Baran et al. 2012). Discussion: The role or the designation of an individual working in an organization helps to articulate or describe the job of the particular individual. Job descriptions are very essential in an organization. During the very moment of recruitment, the individuals are made aware about the roles or the responsibilities they will have to perform in accordance with the aims of the organization. The description about certain jobs makes it possible for both the employees and the employers to analyse the responsibilities diligently and thereby serve accordingly (Menz 2012). The outline of the roles provides the individuals with the accurate knowledge of the goals of the organization. They will be able to anticipate the results or the performance levels, which are expected from them. Appropriate job descriptions enable the manager of an organization to understand and evaluate the performance standards of the employees in accordance with the goals of the firm (Kehoe and Wright 2013). Therefore, it is a very vital role for the manager to take into account specific roles and responsibilities of the individual employees and devise methods to develop and upgrade the accomplishment of the organizations. Rolstadas (2012) opined that many departments in a business firm remain engaged with various kinds of activities that aim at a common end. The manager or the supervisor of that organization undertakes the responsibility to supervise and integrate the functioning of all these departments. Although the HRM or the Human Resource Management department as well as the workforce of the organization are equally responsible for maintaining and enriching the levels of performance in the company, it is the manager or the supervisor of the concerned company who remains accountable for entire process. As for instance, in case of an IT sector company, there are different departments or employees having specific designations who are working upon various projects (Mollick 2012). There are project managers for different teams, team leaders of particular teams, quality assurance executives and executives or senior leaders who are responsible for the proper execution of the projects completed by variou s teams. Quinn et al. (2014) argue that the project managers of different teams have their own responsibilities, the quality assurance executives who possess the role of checking whether the quality of the services rendered by different teams is satisfactory or not. The members of specific teams are allocated with the roles of implementing their knowledge into the completion of several projects of the client companies in a proper way. Finally, the senior executive leaders undertake the final evaluation of the projects and approve their final execution. Thus, the manager of this particular IT sector company possesses the chief responsibility of managing or administrating the functioning of all the departments of the company. A few instances based on the views of some of the critics are the following: Accenture, being one of the well-known multinational companies, implements the policy of ongoing performance reviews rather than focusing upon the annual raking programs. They have organized internal applications to record the day-to-day performance of the employees. The policy adopted by Google for the management of performance as reported by Larry, the co-founder of Google and now the CEO of Alphabet is to coach and assist the workforce, instead of dictating them as the traditional methods involved. In accordance with the views of Quinn et al.(2014) and some other researchers, management of the diverse requirements of the employees and other factors of production and strengthening the overall performance remain the major concerns of the managerial department. The manager should organize meetings with the leadership of the firm and decide upon the programs and the policies that can be implemented in order to develop the latent skills of the workforce. After conducting such meetings, the manager has to make an in-depth study of different aspects in terms of the welfare of the employees that can boost up the organizational commitment towards. This should lead the manager to summon regular short-term meetings in order to make the individual employees aware of their daily performance strategy. He needs to convey the reviews upon the roles of the employees and simultaneously demand their feedback. Based on the feedback, the manager is required to develop the appraisals for the individ ual employee both on monthly and yearly basis. Subramanian and Ramanathan (2012) opined that the results of such short-term meetings carried out by the manager with the employees, should be discussed with the leadership of the business organization. The manager and the higher authority together can take major decisions for the incorporation of the training and career development programs that can assist in the fortification of the skills and talents of the employees. This will help in keeping the workforce allied to the goals of the business concern. As and when the employees will be able to realize that the company is concerned about their well-being, they will be automatically directed towards the objectives of the company. The presence of the performance management system is integral in order to make the managerial department of the organization recognize, measure and reward the activities of the employees. It is an usual fact that the business concerns, especially the managers as well as the employees dread the annual perform ance reviews or appraisals. Often the companies do not undertake the appraisals of the employees judiciously, thereby discouraging the consumers. Such disputes ask for ongoing or regularised performance review and management, which can help ultimately in conducting annual reviews quite judiciously, thereby achieving employee retention. According to Stone (2013), the major processes that are necessary for achievement of the astute performance management structure on the part of the manager or supervisor of a firm are the following: The management of a company should link its set aims or goals with the available infrastructure of the organization, as well as with the skills and knowledge of the workforce. Moreover, the goals of the company should remain allied to those of the aims of the workforce. The employees of the firm must be able to identify their objectives with those of the firms. The employees of an organization should be intimated the details regarding the short-term and long term developmental plans of the company, how those plans can be achieved and about the more immediate needs. In accordance with such plans, the employees should be given the desired training so that they can enter the entire growth process (Turner 2014). The manager needs to plan a course of action, which is required to be a two way process. The performance management always should in involve both the management of a company as well as the employees. It is the duty of both. This asks for the presence of proper direction from the administrative or the managerial department and incisive focus towards and dedication of the employees towards the accomplishment of the set goals. Furthermore, this should be an ongoing procedure, then only the company will be able to assess and present reviews upon the performance of the employees at short intervals, thereby opening a greater scope for the workforce to improve themselves. Provisions or arrangements should be made by the manager in association with the HRM or the Human resource management department of the firm for the evaluation of the employees and their roles. According to Rothaermel (2015), reward and recognition of the individual employees, acknowledging them through organizational programs are very necessary as incentives to make them improve upon their work. However, at the same time disciplinary measures should be also undertaken as a part of the performance appraisals programs. The meetings that will be conducted by the manager should involve individuals from all the departments, so that a better work culture is developed. The members of various departments can share opinions and adopt new means to widen their roles and achieve excellence in specific fields. The manager should converse in an informal way with the employees, and try to know various issues and their grievances if any. He or she should be available to coach the employees in precise fields that are felt necessary by the manager and the leadership. Ensuring a continuous development of the company is very important. Moreover, the manager has to be aware of the specific fields of interests of the individual employees and thereby allocate such tasks to them in which they can express their dexterity. This will enhance the interests of the entire workforce of the firm. The researches undertaken in this particular field earlier focus upon the point that as and when the manager of a concern is unable to perceive the means that can develop the situation of the employees and make them achieve their own aims along with those of the company; the companys growth will face a setback. Lack of communication between the manager and the workforce, greater recognition and impact of the hierarchical positions within the firm and corruptions among the authorities of the company are the highly probable factors behind the failure of achieving successful performance management system. Conclusion: The performance management system, creation a team work culture, or team spirit, astute appraisals of the employees and thereby assuring the development of the business concern are the duties that are not only confined to the managerial department of the firm. e HRM or the HR of a business organization also holds the duty to recruit right individuals for specific positions, giving them proper training. Besides, the employees are also responsible for being judicious towards the company, and render supportive strength. References: Al Ariss, A., Cascio, W.F. and Paauwe, J., 2014. Nelson Mandela’s first name reveals the way the people of South Africa cherished their tribal traditions in the beginning of the twentieth century. The first name he got was Rolihlahla, which â€Å"literally means â€Å"pulling the branch of a tree,† but its colloquial meaning more accurately would be â€Å"troublemaker.†1 Mandela notes that his childhood was a happy one even despite the wrongs of the whitesâ⠂¬â„¢ policies. As a boy, Mandela enjoyed playing with his numerous brothers and sisters and being in the nature. Notably, Mandela recalls that in African culture there is no such a notion as a cousin or aunt as the mother’s sister is not an aunt but the mother. His life â€Å"and that of most Xhosas at the time, was shaped by custom, ritual, and taboo†.2 Clearly, Mandela depicts this tradition with great respect which is also a sign of his attitude towards his people’s traditions. He was proud of his name which was a part of African tradition and culture. However, South African people who lived in the first part of the twentieth century did not enjoy freedom as British invaders tried to ‘civilize’ Africans. These attempts had certain positive effects, but they mostly had devastating impact on the development of the country.Advertising Looking for essay on african american? Let's see if we can help you! On the other hand, British people tried to make Africans believe they needed to be civilized. Thus, young Rolihlahla went to school but he was given a new name to make it easier for British teachers or to make him forget about his cultural background. The name Nelson was given to Mandela when he was seven.3 Nelson Mandela notes that Africans of his generation all had two names.4 Admittedly, this can be regarded as a symbol of the British imperialism as Africans were under constant pressure. The third name given to Nelson Mandela was Dalibunga, meaning â€Å"founder of the Bunga†5. Mandela notes that he was proud of this name which was the symbol of his empowerment as he became an adult who could take part in discussions. After that, he could express his viewpoint and he was listened to. Apart from Nelson†™s personal empowerment, his third name can be regarded as a symbol of African’s empowerment. There was the moment when Africans understood the value and importance of their heritage. They started their attempts to regain their power over their own land. They cherished their traditions and tried to continue living in accordance with those conventions. On balance, it is possible to note that the history of Nelson Mandela’s naming can be regarded as a certain reflection of the life in South Africa in the first part of the twentieth century.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Three names of Nelson Mandela specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Thus, Africans lived their own lives and cherished traditions of their ancestors and took pride in what they were, but British people came and tried to ‘civilize’ Africans. Nonetheless, these people managed to preserve their culture and become empowered. B ibliography Mandela, Nelson. Long Walk to Freedom. New York, NY: Little Brown and Company, 1995. Relative Clauses s in English A relative clause is a  clause that usually modifies a noun or noun phrase and is introduced by a relative pronoun (which, that, who, whom, whose), a relative adverb (where, when, why), or a zero relative. Also known as an adjective clause, an adjectival clause, and a  relative construction. A relative clause is a postmodifierthat is, it follows the noun or noun phrase it modifies. Relative clauses are traditionally divided into two types: restrictive and nonrestrictive. See Examples and Observations below. Positioning Relative ClausesUnlike prepositional phrases, restrictive relative clauses . . . always modify noun phrases. However, a relative clause doesnt always immediately follow the noun phrase that it modifies. For example, if two relative clauses are joined by a coordinating conjunction (and, or, or but), then the second one doesnt immediately follow the noun phrase that it modifies: This article describes features that facilitate collaboration but that are not intended to increase security. Anaphoric Elements in Relative ClausesRelative clauses are so called because they are related by their form to an antecedent. They contain within their structure an anaphoric element whose interpretation is determined by the antecedent. This anaphoric element may be overt or covert. In the overt case the relative clause is marked by the presence of one of the relative words who, whom, whose, which, etc., as or within the initial constituent: clauses of this type we call wh relatives. In non-wh relatives the anaphoric element is covert, a gap; this class is then subdivided into that relatives and bare relatives depending on the presence or absence of that. Sentence Relative ClausesSentence relative clauses refer back to the whole clause or sentence, not just to one noun. They always go at the end of the clause or sentence.Tina admires the Prime Minister, which surprises me. ( and this surprises me)He never admits his mistakes, which is extremely annoying. Rhetoric from Homer to Augustine Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Rhetoric from Homer to Augustine - Essay Example Antique civilization contributed a lot to our modern science and laid foundation of modern scientific conceptions of the world inside and outside of us. Rhetoric is just one point of ancient heritage. Rhetoric from Homer to Augustine went through the phase of its origin and becoming when fundament of this art was laid. 2. Rhetoric in Greece was one of the three liberal arts. So it was a very important art. In Homer days rhetoric was not widely developed yet, but it is possible to say that Homer's contribution to rhetoric is obvious. His epic poems "Iliad" and "Odyssey" were full of poetic dialogues, argumentations and word exercises for achieving different goals. His poetry influenced further poetic and rhetoric development in Greece. But in 5th century B. C. rhetoric became known for wide people through sophists. They thought people skill of argumentation. Sophists' work was valued rather high as they helped people to defend their personal interests, not always fair. So this form of teaching soon declined. Plato's teaching was another significant step to rhetoric development. He was an opponent for the sophists. ... Aristotle developed Plato's ideas and went further. He introduced rhetoric as a system of particular skills necessary for an orator. It was the next step of rhetoric development. Aristotle identified three main elements of rhetorical art: character of an orator, his emotions and his language. It is very important to feel the character of the audience, its structure - it will help to choose correct ways of influence on it. Orator's character and emotions must be directed to the goals of the speech - his speech must be emotionally-colored, bright and address everybody's hearts and feelings. The choice of appropriate language is also important. It in turn depends on the audience structure and goals to be achieved. So Aristotle's system influenced rhetoric very much and prepared fertile ground for its further rise and development.3. Rhetoric in Ancient Rome took much from that of Greece, but there were its own features. The main figures of Roman rhetoric were Cicero and Quintilian. Cicer o was one of the most brilliant orators of the ancient world. His speeches were full of expression, his influence on the audience was great, his oratorical methods were much imitated in his days and by later orators. Cicero's works on rhetoric were influenced this art in Rome and for further rhetoric development in general. Quintilian's treatise "Institutes of Oratory" was the next step of rhetorical skills systematization. He wrote about five main rhetorical canons. These are: development of an argument; its arrangement and organization for achieving an appropriate effect; definition of the speech style for a determined audience; speech delivery methods; orator's memory needed to keep in mind all elements of the speech. Quintilian's
